OC ReMix has given us a great gift this boring morning. Before I start the post, if you haven’t been to OC ReMix go now!! It is an amazing site. Overclocked ReMix, also known as OC ReMix and OCR, is a website created by David W. Lloyd (also known as djpreztel) to preserve and tribute video game music with remixes of the original song/s using new technology and hardware/software. The remixed arrangements of the original, or master, songs are all done by fans and OC ReMix lives up to it’s intentions offering a wide variety of arrangements by its large user base. The songs come from a large list of games which OC ReMix currently has remixes of 553 games and 1,642 remixes right now! Yowzah.
Aside from just offering video game remix downloads OC ReMix also offers a large database video game information, composer information, games, game systems, and much more. The site distributes the music through direct downloads for individual songs and BitTorrent for albums and packages which one can also buy to support OC ReMix. You can also visit their forums to interact with the community and rate remixed songs and remixers.
One song that I have been listening to recently is an Ico ReMix called Save Me (OCR Edit) by SGX, a remix of the soundtracks “continue” and “heal” from the game.
Now on to their great achievement today. As I was checking my Facebook Inbox I received a message
from Mr. David W. Lloyd as I am part of the fan group on Facebook (signup for their notifications!). Mr. David W. Lloyd is pleased to announce that OC ReMix has just finished working with Capcom, that’s right THAT Capcom, to produce the first ever major video game with a completely fan made soundtrack.
This is definitely some fucking morning tea awesome news! Best of all OC ReMix is offering the sound track for FREE right now so head on over to the website (clicky the green link) and get it!!
The soundtrack had a lot building up to it in both its inception and completion which you can read all of it on The OC ReMix Wikipedia Article. What I find very astounding is that the soundtrack consists of remixes of the original Street Fighter games remixed by more than twenty gamers around the world. More than just an amazing venture between a video game giant and video game music enthusiasts it is a giant effort from people all around the world composing music for a video game series that they love. It goes to show my belief that people can always come together for food, alcohol, video games, and video game music. Well actually I have more to add to that but it’s for impact heh.
OC ReMix: Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Official Soundtrack boasts a whopping 66 songs in HQ Mp3 and FLAC format spanning a length of 62 minutes and 45 seconds. A little bit over an hours worth of remixed songs! If you haven’t already gone to their OC ReMix do so now and check out the OC ReMix: Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Official Soundtrack along with the thousands of songs in their database. While you are at it, spread the word through your blog/facebook/twitter/myspace/AIM away message/whatever. The word needs to get known and free stuff is good!
