Well 2009 is upon us ladies and gentlemen and it is my pleasure to say “Happy New Year”! Here’s looking forward to another eventful year. Looking back 2008 was a pretty eventful and crazy year for me: I started college, met many a new friends, watched a whole slew of animes, and played some very awesome video games.
There were a lot of memorable animes from 2008 such as Natsume Yuujinchou, Aria the Origination, Code Geass R2, Soul Eater, Hidamari Sketch x365, Kannagi, To Aru Majutsu no Index, xxxHolic Kei, and Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Of course I watched more anime than just these titles but these are the memorable ones from the past year.
If you haven’t figured out already my (and Nodonns) favorite series is the Aria series and when Origination came to an end I cried a waterfall of happiness. I wish there can be more Aria but they’d probably go astray with it since the story in the manga has finished. Also i can’t forget Kannagi for bringing me ripping good laughs and characters with moe~ power levels over 9000. I think it’s one of the few animes where I didn’t hate any of the characters. I BEG THE GODS OF ANIME TO MAKE A SECOND SEASON!!!!
However one of the most memorable shows that I watched in the past year was “Legend of the Galactic Heroes”, THE most epic space opera anime I have ever watched. I could probably write a graduation thesis paper on Legend of the Galactic Heroes so I’ll spare you from that for now. Just know that despite being a 110 episode OVA from the late 80’s the animation is still wonderful and the characters and story just hook you in. It is definitely in my top 5 favorite animes of all time.
Aside from animes there were a lot of good games (most that I haven’t finished) released this year: Metal Gear Solid 4, Persona 4, Valkyria Chronicles, Little Big Planet, Mirrors Edge, Tales of Vesperia, and Warhammer Online. My “need to finish” game list just keeps piling up and although I am progressing little by little it is gonna take awhile to clear that list.
Time for reminiscing is over and we must look forward to a new year. There are many things to look forward to this year in the otaku and non-otaku sphere. Whatever comes at us I hope everyone had a memorable 2008 and if not then make it a resolution to make 2009 memorable. I kinda forgot about New Year’s resolutions so the only one I could think of when someone asked me was “I WILL go to Comiket within the next year or two!!!”.
