Phew Megacon is finally over with, 3 days of scouting the dealers room for good stuff was tiring but fun. I got a lot of stuff to show and I think I bought more than I should have (that means eating out less now, shame really). This con was more of a purchase of gashapons instead of large figs. I looked for really detailed gashapons and ones from my favorite series. Why not big figures? Mainly cause I have most of the ones I want on pre-order (such as Aozaki Toko).
So here we go with the stuff!
-warning long post and big pictures ahead-
-also click to enlarge-
The Kozue Amano art book was my first purchase of Megacon coming in at $50 which was very well worth it. You can’t see it but it’s actually protected by a clear slip on case and it’s a hardcover. The illustrations inside are very nice and it’s one of my prized purchases of the con. There were only 2 when we (Nodonn and I) got there and we bought them both. He got Cielo and I got Stella. There may have been more since we arrived around 12 but one book is good enough for me.
The Queen’s Blade Risty was a gashapon I got at the Toyslogic Booth for 15 bucks. There were only 2 left and I weighed them both on my hands and went for the heavier one which was Risty (and I really wanted her). There was a chance for a loli character amongst 2 busty girls heh.
Sticking with Queen’s Blade I got another gashapon box with Tomoe in it. This time I could look inside the box to see if it was the one I wanted. Tomoe was much more of a pain to put together than Risty but she can reveal more too. Also yes those faces are funny as they look like they are surprised or in an orgasmic trance.
I knew I wanted this fig when I instantly saw it. It’s the Light Warrior from FF1 in FF Dissidia form, very nice and very detailed. The thing is pretty damn tall too. If I had the money I would have gotten a Squall one too. Speaking of Dissidia a few booths had the carbonated energy drinks but there wasn’t a Kefka one so I didn’t buy any.
The Agrias from FF Tactics is nice and simple, and I got the last one so it makes it all the better. Would have hoped for a Ramza and a Balthier (he’s available in the PSP version).
I put the Chun Li and Alicia figs together cause I got them at the same booth. The Chun Li one is nice, very nice pose and “thunder thighs” lol. There’s also a clear bust of Ryu right under her for some reason.
The Alicia fig happened to be a random find. You see, this particular table/booth had a lot of things ranging from anime figs, Godzilla stuff, Kamen Rider stuff and a bit of Alice in Wonderland stuff. A very nice place with reasonably priced (and on the last day very cheap) items. The thing was that their area was very small so they didn’t have room to show everything . They would have to put in some of their inventory whenever one that was sitting on the table was sold. Basically we had to check that place many times within the 3 days. We happened to find an Alicia, Akira, and Aika fig,. Nodonn got the Akira nd Aika.
KUROI-SENSEI!!! I really wanted more Kuroi-Sensei stuff but I was running out of cash by this time. There was one where she was in a dress shirt that she wore for PJs, I wanted it =(. Lotsa nice Lucky Star gashapons at this one booth that displayed them in a glass case. That’s one of the booths I visited a lot and it’s also where we bought our Aria books. Nodonn also bought a Spice and Wolf calendar for them, one of only 2 they had. Basically we snatched a lot of the good stuff our time there heh.
Oh and Kuroi-Sensei is NOT leftovers!
A little fig with character designs by Range Murata whom I worship, steam punk is awesome yo. I saw 2 other bigger Range Murata figs but they were the rare ones that costed 80-100 bucks.
Saber Lion Nedoroid from the Colosseum game. When I saw it I HAD to get it, it was just so adorable and it’s by type-moon so all the reason more. Snagged her for 35 bucks which is about the same price you would get if for online, if not cheaper. Will have more pics of her doing funny stuff later.
There were a few type-moon things I wanted, mainly the Saber and Tohsaka figmas, I also happened to see a Dark Saber figma buried underneath some other boxes in another booth Of course my type-moon fandom will be quenched when the Saber Lily Distant Avalon fig I pre-ordered gets here
Lastly…MUDKIPS. I bought that almost immediately after I saw it. very tiny, no bigger than a iPod Shuffle. MUDKIPS.
So that’s my haul from Megacon. There were some things that I wanted to get such as more FF figs (mainly the Dissidia and Tactics Trading Arts), a Macross Valkyrie Revoltech, FREEing Asakura Ryoko and Suzumiya Haruhi, Rin and Len Vocaloid Figmas, a crazy Castlevania wallscroll, Code Geass gashapons, Lucky Star gashapons, more Queen’s Blade, and the Detroit Metal City Revoltechs. You can’t have everything so you have to choose wisely and effectively. I did spend well above what I planned so I’m gonna have to be pulling a Madarame from Genshiken now (eating cheap stuff). I also have to get new tires and an alignment for my car but that’s another matter.
Despite some annoying things at Megacon (damn memes and furries) the shopping experience was great, very good selection and nice dealers. Saw some crazy, cute, and bizarre cosplays amongst the sea of generic cosplays.
Overall Megacon was fun. Next con I go to will be Jacon for the last year it is running.
